Prem Jyoti Hospital is a 30-bed healthcare and community health facility located in Chandragodda, Sahibganj district, Jharkhand. Established in 1999 by Dr. Isac David and Dr. Vijila Isac, the hospital grew from a small community health programme started in 1996 to serve the remote and underserved Malto tribal communities. The hospital is part of the Emmanuel Hospital Association (EHA).
Prem Jyoti’s mission is to provide quality, accessible and compassionate healthcare to poor and marginalized communities, particularly the Malto tribals. Its healthcare model combines community-based primary care with hospital-based secondary care. Community Health Volunteers, selected and trained from local villages, identify illnesses, pregnancies and health needs, conduct health education and facilitate referrals. Mobile clinics extend antenatal care, immunization and other services to remote villages, while the hospital provides outpatient, diagnostic, maternity and inpatient services.
Beyond medical care, Prem Jyoti works toward holistic community transformation by promoting education, women’s self-help groups, livelihoods, local leadership and health awareness. It has also trained members of the Malto community, including women who have become nurses and healthcare workers serving their own people.
Through its integrated approach, Prem Jyoti seeks to reduce preventable illness and maternal and infant deaths while empowering the community toward greater health, dignity, self-reliance and hope.
